There are a handful of vehicles around the world that you can call "iconic." Officially called the G-Class, the Gelandewagen (German for "cross-country vehicle") has looked almost the same since its arrival in 1979, when it was created for the German military. Over the years, the G-Wagen has gone from being a spartan, no-nonsense German Humvee-equivalent to being the preferred ride of wealthy Southern California socialites.
