Whenever you see a Rolls-Royce driving by, even an old one, it has a certain stately, imposing allure to it. Well, there's nothing old about the eighth-generation redesign of Rolls-Royce's flagship sedan, the Phantom. Rolls-Royce says the 2018 Phantom rides on an all-new, bespoke platform that doesn't underpin anything else yet, but it will underpin Rolls-Royce models to come.

The model we saw at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this week was the regular-wheelbase version of the car, which is a little bit shorter than the outgoing model, believe it or not. But make no mistake: It's still a gigantic car.
