bmw's x5 suv has had a reputation of being a nice but boring, well-rounded suv. but nice isn't exactly going to cut it amid tough competition in the mid-size luxury suv class. for 2019, the x5 gets a redesign that takes it to the next level.
bmw added a little more of everything to the fourth generation of its popular suv, namely dimensions, horsepower and technology.
outside, it's 1.6 inches longer than the outgoing model and gets a much more interesting, dynamic look thanks to a larger grille and redesigned headlights.
inside, there's a revised dashboard layout that gives the controls a modern look, as well as some new features like heated and cooled cupholders and the next generation of the idrive multimedia system. the x5 also will be available with a rear-seat entertainment professional system with a pair of 10.2-inch high-definition touchscreens, a blu-ray dvd player and a full range of ports. the system also can display the navigation map.
at launch, available iterations include the x5 xdrive 40i and the x5 xdrive 50i all-wheel-drive models featuring a turbocharged inline six-cylinder used engine and v-8, respectively. a third-row option will be added after launch.
how does it compare with heavyweights in the class, like the award-winning volvo xc90? watch the video for more.
