lexus announced pricing today for the all-new-for-2019 ux 200 and ux 250h luxury subcompact suv it first revealed at the 2018 new york international auto show. the gas-only ux 200 will start at $33,025, while the hybrid ux 250h costs an extra $2,000, starting at $35,025; both prices include a $1,025 destination fee. the ux 200 will only be available with front-wheel drive, while the ux 250h features all-wheel drive as standard.
all ux models will come standard with a number of technology features essential for younger demographics — you can say "millennial" if you want, but fun fact: that generally includes people born in the early 1980s — like apple carplay. additionally, all ux models will feature both amazon alexa and google assistant compatibility, as well as voice command compatibility with some android and apple devices.
the lexus safety system plus 2.0 suite of safety features is also standard equipment. it includes front crash prevention with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assistance, lane-centering steering, automatic high beams and road sign recognition. the road sign recognition can read speed limit, stop, yield and do-not-enter signs, and display them in the digital gauge cluster — but it won't see a stop sign and stop the car.
optional features include the familiar lexus f sport package for both the ux 200 and 250h. as usual, it's mostly an appearance package, and includes 18-inch wheels that are different from the standard 18s, as well as revised grille mesh and different front and rear bumpers. inside, it adds sport seats, an updated steering wheel and sportier-looking digital gauges. it also adds an 8-inch multimedia system instead of the standard 7-inch. revised suspension springs and stabilizer bars may improve handling somewhat, but we'll know for sure once we drive the ux in f sport and non-f sport guises.
also available is a 10.25-inch premium infotainment system. all multimedia systems will play sounds through a standard six-speaker or available premium eight-speaker system. lexus would like you to know that the speaker diaphragms are made with bamboo charcoal ... which probably(?) matters to audiophiles.
the ux is certainly competitive in pricing compared with its rivals. the bmw x1 starts at $34,895 and the new x2 starts at $37,395, including destination fees. volvo's new xc40 starts at $34,195 and is also available as part of a subscription service.
we'll have a full breakdown of the 2019 lexus ux 200 and 250h's features and available equipment soon, so be sure to check back often.
