the telluride is offered with front- or all-wheel drive and in lx, ex, s and sx trim levels. it's built in west point, ga., and is scheduled to hit dealerships in the 2019 calendar year. but visitors to the 2019 north american international auto show in detroit, where the all-new suv is making its official auto show debut (it first walked the proverbial runway at an unconventional appearance during new york fashion week in september 2018, and three full years ago in concept form here in detroit), can get an early peek at it when the show opens to the public saturday. in the meantime, here's everything we know about it so far.
the telluride has a boxier shape with a more upright windshield than kia's compact sportage and mid-size sorento, meant to harken back to the squared-off looks of early suvs, according to kia. there's a wide version of kia's signature grille that's flanked by stacked headlights.
the telluride can be equipped with upscale features like available quilted nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated first- and second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, a 10.25-inch dashboard touchscreen and a harman kardon premium stereo. the uvo telematics system provides standard remote start and door locking; five usb ports are also standard. wireless phone charging is available.

under the hood
power comes from a 291-horsepower, 3.8-liter v-6 used engine that works with an eight-speed automatic transmission. front-wheel drive is standard, and the available all-wheel-drive system has a lock setting that splits power evenly between the front and rear wheels; otherwise, the various drive modes — smart, eco, comfort and sport — determine how much power goes to the front and rear wheels. a self-leveling rear suspension is available, and the telluride's standard towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.
a long list of available active safety features includes forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind spot warning, a driver drowsiness monitor, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear cross-traffic alert with braking capability and highway driving assist. highway driving assist is designed to make highway driving less taxing by maintaining a set following distance from traffic directly ahead while also helping steer the suv so that it stays in its lane. on federal highways, the system can also adjust the telluride's speed to match the posted speed limit.
