the mazda cx-5 enters the 2020 model year with a few tweaks and slightly higher pricing. it now starts at $25,395, $740, but the base sport model comes with newly standard driver-assist features to make up for that difference. touring, grand touring, grand touring reserve, and signature trims go up by $115–$165, and information on the 2020 cx-5 diesel isn't available yet because it is on a different launch cadence than the rest of the lineup, mazda says.
changes that apply to all trim levels include a new key fob design and a new font for all badging and interior text. for models equipped with the base naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four, there's a new display that shows the status of the cylinder-deactivation system. instead of a button that turns the traction control off, there's now a button for a system that mazda dubs "off-road traction assist" that causes the traction-control system to stop restricting engine torque while also applying braking to wheels without traction.
newly standard on the cx-5 sport is the full suite of i-activsense driver-assist features, and this trim also gains automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers. there are no equipment changes to the touring trim level, which now starts at $27,775, and the grand touring gets paddle shifters and now starts at $31,225.
grand touring reserve and signature models, which come with the more powerful turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four, benefit from 10 extra lb-ft of torque for a total of 320 lb-ft (when using premium gas). mazda also says that the engine sounds better thanks to what it calls an engine harmonics enhancer (i.e. fake engine noise). these trims also get a new, larger 8.0-inch touchscreen.
mazda says the gas-powered 2020 cx-5 will reach dealerships soon, while the 2020 cx-5 diesel should follow within a few months—if it remains part of the lineup.
