the new 2021 genesis g80 sedan starts more than $5000 higher than its predecessor, with a starting price of $48,725. when fully loaded with its optional v-6 engine, all-wheel-drive system, and lots of luxury extras, it can now reach close to $70,000.
genesis has made sure to keep the g80 priced considerably lower than rivals such as the mercedes e-class and bmw 5-series, however. the base g80 2.5t with rear-wheel drive costs thousands less than four-cylinder versions of the 5-series and e-class, despite offering more standard equipment and more power from its turbo 2.5-liter inline-four that makes 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. bmw's base 530i model offers 248 hp while mercedes-benz's e350 model makes 255 hp.
the g80 3.5t starts at $60,125 and is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter v-6 with 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. rear-wheel drive is standard across the board, and all-wheel drive is a $3150 option for both 2.5t and 3.5t models.
rather than standalone options, genesis packages the g80's optional equipment in trim levels called advanced and prestige. metallic and pearl paint colors will cost $400 extra. a fully optioned 3.5t awd prestige model, then, costs $69,075.
the g80 sedan is set to go on sale at u.s. genesis dealerships sometime this summer. it follows the related gv80 suv into showrooms as hyundai's upscale brand continues to build out its lineup of luxury vehicles.
