chevrolet has offered a glimpse inside of the upcoming 2024 equinox ev in a video posted today on its consumer website. while it's not the first sneak peek at the electric equinox's interior—sketches of the cabin were shown when the new ev was revealed back in january—the video does provide a more realistic, albeit rendered, viewing experience.
the 30-second clip opens with a glowing bow-tie logo sitting above the earth spinning below during a lunar eclipse. in the video description, chevy writes: lunar eclipses bring new beginnings. the first ever all-electric equinox is coming. of course, we've known for a while that the equinox ev is set to arrive in the fall of 2023. along with giving off sci-fi vibes often associated with electric vehicles, the lunar eclipse in the video coincides with the actual lunar eclipse that occurred today (may 16).
next, the video transitions into a close-up shot of the new hvac vent, which is one of two circular units located on either end of the dashboard. the fine print below tells us we're looking at the inside of an lt trim level, but we're told its availability will be announced at a later date. the rs model will likely arrive first in the fall of 2023. chevy hasn't said how much the 2024 equinox ev rs will cost, but the lt is said to start around $30,000.
the next shot shows the equinox's floating center console, complete with an open storage space on the bottom and a cubby on top that's located underneath the center stack. one of the most distinctive features shown in the video is the ambient lighting on the passenger side of the dash and on the panel near the door handle. in the video we see the color of the lights change from white to blue, and chevy says on its consumer website that the colors can be personalized.
the final scene is a wide-angle view of the dashboard, including the digital gauge cluster and the massive touchscreen that controls the infotainment system. we also catch a glimpse of the suv's steering wheel and what looks like a column-mounted shifter. this is corroborated by the lack of a gear selector on the center console, which we get to see from a higher angle that shows a pair of usb-c ports alongside a pair of cupholders.
a closer inspection of chevy's video shows an odometer reading of 48,211 miles. that number is also the zip code for gm's factory zero plant in detroit, michigan. that's the same factory where the gmc hummer ev is being built, and it's part of gm's ambitious plan to build 400,000 evs in north america by the end of 2023. naturally, the 2024 equinox ev will play a big role in that when it hits the streets.
