  • new lego speed champions model is launching shortly after the forza 4 horizon video-game expansion pack that lets you race cars made from plastic bricks.
  • the new model, a 1974 porsche 911 turbo, sports real-life details and comes with a driver, rubber racing tires, a helmet, and cones.
  • it's the latest in the speed champions toy lineup, which includes hot muscle cars, sports cars, and supercars from around the world.

hot on the heels of the launch of the lego speed champions expansion pack for microsoft's forza 4 horizon racing game, the danish toymaker has announced the introduction of a new collectible toy modeled after the 1974 porsche 911 turbo from the game.

we had the privilege of driving a similar 1974 porsche 911 turbo alongside nascar racing legend bobby allison, and the lego model shares many of that car's styling elements, including the whale-tail rear spoiler. the model is five inches long, two inches wide, and about an inch tall, so it's not a large, complicated build like some of lego's more expensive technic model kits, which makes it perfect for children; lego recommends the toy for those aged seven and up. this set and all of these other ones make us suspect that there are some auto enthusiasts in the ranks at lego.

the porsche joins a growing lineup of lego speed champions models, which includes cars such as the dodge challenger srt demon, the mclaren 720s, the ford mustang, and the ferrari 488 gt3 race car. along with the car itself, the porsche 911 turbo kit also includes a driver, three road cones, a helmet, and racing tires. the new model will be available for purchase starting august 1, priced at $14.99.
