bmw has divulged more specifications for the u.s. version of the ix electric crossover. set to arrive on our shores in early 2022, the ix xdrive50 model will start at around $85,000 and will be available for pre-ordering starting this june.
xdrive50 in this case indicates that the ix will come standard with all-wheel drive and offers the more powerful of its available electric drivetrains (in europe, there's a lower-powered xdrive40 model as well). its two electric motors produce a total output of 500 horsepower and uses a battery pack with a capacity of over 100.0-kwh.
bmw estimates a total driving range of 300 miles and says that dc fast-charging capability will be able to add 75 miles of range in 10 minutes. performance-wise, the claim is that the ix xdrive50 will get to 62 mph in less than 5.0 seconds and will have a top speed of 124 mph.
we expect to hear more details about the ix as we get closer to its on-sale date in the u.s. it's one of two new bmw electric models that's soon to hit dealerships, the other being the i4 hatchback.
