BMW, which for years has dangled the prospect of a convertible version of its i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, has confirmed that the i8 Roadster is coming and offered a video teaser of what's on the way. Check it out below.
The company also appeared to confirm rumors that the roadster, along with all future i-brand vehicles, will be fully electric, saying the new car will be "virtually silent and with zero local emissions."
The open-top car would be the third vehicle after the small i3 sedan and the i8 coupe. The company first showed an open-top concept version of the i8 at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, before the coupe arrived as a 2014 model, and unveiled an i Vision Future Interaction concept roadster at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show.
