Ford Released Its Own Bronco Spy Shots, Showing High-Performance Variant

we still haven't driven the new ford bronco, which is just now starting production, but ford is already teasing future variants of the new off-roader. the company tweeted a picture of a bronco in camouflage this afternoon, highlighting the test mule's massive 37-inch tires (though they called them hooves, how funny). while this photo alone doesn't give us much to go on, we've heard rumblings about this variant before.

the last time ford teased this bronco—which we believe will have its own model name, which we've speculated could be raptor or warthog—was just last week. that photo was considerably more exciting, because it showed the bronco in flight. and who doesn't love a good car jump?

we don't know much about this future bronco yet. even the spy shots are being meted out by ford, presumably after having been collected during a single outdoor photo shoot. we know that the aforementioned 37-inch tires are bigger by two inches in diameter than the tires on the off-roadiest bronco trim we know about, the sasquatch. we also know that ford has promised us that it will not be putting a v-8 engine in any bronco, so a high-performance model would likely use one of ford's turbocharged ecoboost v-6 engines. the f-150 raptor with which this bronco might share a name is powered by a 450-hp 3.5-liter turbocharged v-6. but then, ford filed a trademark on september 9 for the name "warthog" for passenger cars, pickups, and suvs.
