Jaguars XE SV Project 8 Gets a Touring Spec Thats Wingless but Still Looks Wild

  • a new touring specification is available for the jaguar xe sv project 8 that removes the large rear wing.
  • the touring has a lower top speed than the standard project 8, but jaguar says the dynamics are uncompromised.
  • only 15 touring-spec project 8s will be made, but jaguar says the winged version is still available, too.

the xe sv project 8 is one of the craziest jaguars in recent memory. jaguar's special vehicle operations division took an xe sedan, stuffed a 592-hp supercharged v-8 into the engine bay, and slapped on a racecar-like bodykit with a big rear wing. the project 8 was limited to just 300 units worldwide and was priced from $188,495 in the united states when it debuted in 2017. it seems like jaguar is having some trouble finding buyers for such an extreme sedan, though, so the brand has released a new touring specification for the car that slightly tones down the looks by ditching the rear wing.

this is essentially the same strategy that porsche employed with the 911 gt3 touring. in place of the standard project 8's adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing is a smaller fixed spoiler on the trunklid. the touring also has a fixed front splitter to "maintain aerodynamic balance," but everything else about the project 8's appearance remains the same. it only comes in four colors—british racing green, corris grey satin, valencia orange, and velocity blue—and the regular project 8's standard decals and stripes are now optional.

while the standard project 8 has a top speed of 200 mph, jaguar says the wingless version can only hit 186 mph. the claimed zero-to-60-mph time of 3.3 seconds matches the regular car, although in our testing a bewinged project 8 it hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

only 15 examples of the project 8 with the touring specification will be produced in total worldwide, and it will only be available in a four-seat configuration (in non-u.s. markets, the project 8 can be had with a large rollcage instead of a back seat). jaguar hasn't yet provided a price for the touring and we don't know whether or not it will be available in the u.s., but the company does say that there are still "a limited number" of regular project 8s available to purchase. so if you missed out on buying a project 8 when it was first released, you now have more choices than ever.
