we have already gushed over the latest a6 avant wagon, which is on sale in europe, and now the ruggedized allroad version has made its debut. the even better news is that there's a distinct chance this wagon could come to the u.s. many rumors about north american sales of the latest a6 wagon have swirled, and an audi spokesperson told c/d that the company is still deciding whether to bring the a6 allroad to our shores. we have not gotten an a6 allroad since the c5-generation a6, and the a4 allroad is the only wagon audi has deemed worthy for u.s. customers for the past several years.
the allroad treatment is quite familiar by now, and it looks particularly slick on the new c8-generation a6 avant. like other wagons of this type, including volvo's cross country models, the allroad has extra black cladding, standard all-wheel drive, and a lifted ride height that's 1.8 inch higher than the standard a6. an adjustable air suspension is standard, and features such as hill-descent control give it a modicum of off-road capability.
if it does come to the u.s., we would expect the a6 allroad to be powered by the same turbocharged 3.0-liter v-6 as the a6 sedan (european markets get several diesel engine options, which surely won't reach our shores). its pricing would likely start in the low-$60,000 range, which would line up nicely with other mid-size luxury wagons offered in america, such as the volvo v90 cross country and the mercedes-benz e450.
we're not sure when audi will reach its decision on u.s. plans for the a6 allroad, but we're hoping it's soon, and we're hoping the answer is a resounding yes.
