The new Lincoln Navigator is coming soon, and it has some people worried — people at GM, specifically. To lure shoppers away from the redesigned (and dazzling) full-size SUV, the automaker is offering deep discounts on its rival, the Cadillac Escalade.

The Detroit News is reporting that GM is offering a $5,000 discount on the 2018 Escalade to any buyer trading in a 1999 or newer Lincoln model. The nationwide deal applies to both purchase and lease deals, and can be grouped with other incentives, potentially reducing the Escalade's price by several thousand dollars.
GM should be nervous: Not only is the Navigator all new and loaded with high-tech features and luxurious amenities, the Escalade's other main competitor, the Ford Expedition, has also gotten an update for 2018. The Escalade was redesigned for 2015 and gets minor updates for 2018. To date, regular-length Escalade sales are down 1.2 percent compared with last year's numbers.
