The small SUV was first shown in South Korea in June as a 2018 model and is expected to go on sale in the U.S. early next year as a 2018 or 2019 model. A variety of Used Engine were announced for global markets, but the U.S. details were not specified at that time. An electric version also is planned, at least for South Korea. The Kona is an important introduction for Hyundai , which has seen U.S. results slip this year for its car-heavy lineup as buyers snap up SUVs. The Kona fits into the lineup under the Tucson compact SUV, and it enters the growing — and hotly competitive — subcompact SUV field to take on rivals including the Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, Nissan Rogue Sport and Toyota C-HR.
