2017 Jeep Compass: Recall Alert

2017 Jeep Compass: Recall Alert

Approximately 1,200 model-year 2017 Jeep Compass SUVs equipped with a six-speed transmission

The Problem: The left front half-shaft may not be seated properly, which could disengage it from the transmission, break or both, causing a loss of drive; in vehicles parked without the use of the parking brake, this could also allow the vehicle to roll despite being in Park. Either problem increases the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the left front half-shaft and replace any that are not properly engaged in the transmission for free.

What Owners Should Do: Jeep manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners on June 23. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
