Hyundai Reveals More of New Kona SUV

Hyundai Reveals More of New Kona SUV

Just about every automaker is vying for a piece of the popular subcompact SUV segment, with all new entries like the Toyota CH-R joining vehicles that are new to the U.S. but have been on sale elsewhere, like the Ford EcoSport. Now it's Hyundai's turn; the new Kona will be sold both in the U.S. and global markets, and Hyundai revealed more details today.

The tiny 'ute will slot below the Tucson compact SUV in the automaker's lineup. Lightening up Hyundai's latest teaser images reveals the full SUV and the Kona's edgy styling compared with the rest of the automaker's lineup. It wears Hyundai's cascading hexagonal grille but uses a new light design, with the LED daytime running lights and amber turn signals slicing through the corners of the hood; the model's LED headlights sit lower, flanking the grille.

Details about the interior are slim, but Hyundai said the Kona will have a head-up display, a first for the automaker. The 8-inch display will feature driving information projected directly into the driver's line of sight. Check out the teaser video below for a glimpse inside.

Named after Hawaii's Kona district on the Big Island, Hyundai says it will be a "lifestyle" SUV in the spirit of the adventure sports destination. No other details were announced, but Hyundai says the Kona will provide better visibility for drivers as well as agile handling and a comfortable ride.

The Kona's full reveal will be on June 12; stay tuned.
