the minivan segment doesn't involve many players anymore, but the honda odyssey is getting some updates for 2021 that will help it keep up with its closest rivals. chrysler's pacifica just got an update, too, and a redesigned toyota sienna is expected to arrive sometime this year, and we're wondering if the honda's revised styling and new features will be enough for it to stay competitive.
the 2021 odyssey's new front end features led headlights that look like the civic's and accord's, along with a restyled grille and a different lower fascia. there's extra chrome and gloss black trim, and the elite model's 19-inch wheels have a different design.
changes to the interior are aimed at making the odyssey's higher trim levels feel more upscale. the top elite model, for instance, gets special leather seats with contrasting piping and stitching, while other models get upgrades such as tri-color floor mats, piano black trim, and revised climate controls. honda also says that the second-row seats fold differently to make them easier to remove. the base lx trim gets the same driver-assistance features that were previously standard on all other models, and a rear-seat reminder system is newly available.
there are no changes to the odyssey's powertrain, which remains a 3.5-liter v-6 engine with 280 horsepower and a standard 10-speed automatic transmission. it does not offer all-wheel drive like the sienna and, now, the pacifica, which added an awd option recently.
honda says it will release pricing for the 2021 odyssey later this year before it goes on sale, and the refreshed van will make its auto-show debut at the new york auto show in april.
