Chevy Corvette C8 with Enormous Wing Spotted Testing

  • The Chevy Corvette C8 pictured here with a giant wing, captured by our spy photographer, could be the next track-focused Z06.
  • The Vette is sporting a huge wing and what appears to be a staggered tire setup.
  • The 2022 Corvette Z06 is expected to go on sale in early 2021.

Now that the mid-engine Corvette C8 is out in the world, it’s time to start thinking about the Z06 version. If you have an image in your mind, forget it while you check out these spy photos of what might just be that more powerful Corvette adorned with a wing that resembles a bird of prey ready to pounce on a victim.

While the yet-to-be-unveiled 2022 Z06 C8 is rumored to have active aerodynamics, the size of the wing is a bit of a surprise. Aerodynamics throughout the vehicle are expected to get an upgrade, with larger air scoops and flared fenders to generate as much downforce as possible to keep it and its new engine planted to the ground.

The track-focused rear-wheel-drive Corvette is alleged to have a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crank that will allow it to rev to between 8500 and 9000 rpm. It's expected to make 600 horsepower and have a roar to match the supercars it'll be competing against.

In addition to the falcon-in-flight wing design and special engine, the upcoming Z06 Vette will receive upgrades to its suspension, a strengthened structure, and more powerful brakes. While most of that is hidden, what we can see on the heavily camouflaged Corvette is a set of staggered tires that appear to be the racy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2Rs. The camouflage also appears to indicate a fuel-door on the passenger side. Since the fuel door on the C8 is on the driver's side, this could be one of the upcoming hybrids, but that flap could be necessary for the camo to attach to the car.

The 2022 Z06 is expected to go on sale in early 2021 for those looking to tackle the track in a Corvette; if these spy photos are any indication, it's going to be way more aggressive than the mainstream C8.
