the only other pickup in this size class, the hyundai santa cruz, is not available as a hybrid—despite the fact that its platform-mate, the tucson, is available both as a hybrid and as a plug-in hybrid (phev). the most economical tucson carries epa estimates of 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.
buyers who want the more fuel-efficient maverick had better act fast. ford says that the 2022 maverick hybrid is likely to sell out by early november; those who miss the window will have their next opportunity this summer. the 2.0-liter maverick will continue to be available.
