- acura will reveal the next-gen tlx sedan on thursday, may 28, at 1 p.m. et.
- a teaser video shows what the turbo v-6 in the high-performance tlx type s will sound like.
- the standard tlx will be powered by a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder borrowed from the current honda accord, and the more powerful tlx type s will use a new turbo v-6.
acura's best-selling tlx sedan is getting a redesign for 2021 and will include a high-performance, all-wheel-drive type s model. the new tlx will be revealed on may 28, although acura has given us an early glimpse at what the tlx type s's new twin-turbo v-6 will sound like.
the standard tlx powertrain will borrow the current-generation honda accord's turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and 10-speed automatic transmission but will be available with optional all-wheel drive. the more powerful type s model will be powered by a new turbocharged v-6 that should have exceptional horsepower compared with the outgoing 3.5-liter v-6's 290 ponies.
the new tlx's styling is taken from acura's 2016 precision and 2019 type s concept cars. the teaser image shows a tlx type s with wide rear fenders, rear diffuser, and quad-tip exhaust, but most noticeably is the sh-awd badge, confirming the high-performance model will get acura's effective super handling all-wheel drive system.
we expect the standard 2021 tlx will go on sale this summer with a base price in the mid-$30,000 range, and the high-performance type s variant should arrive early next year starting in the mid-$40,000 range. we'll have full information after the may 28 reveal.
